WHO IS EMILY?
A Unique Philosophy
As a child, I remember constantly being surrounded by the aroma of fresh foods being cooked on the stove. I didn't realize how fortunate I was at the time to be blessed with a cooking mother. Who also happened to be a Registered Nurse. My dad was in the kitchen too, but mostly for cooking his favorite meal, breakfast. Like my mother, my father worked in the hospital too, as a respiratory tech. This made for a very cautious and health-oriented household. But a household that aimed to prepare home-cooked meals as much as possible, where everyone was involved. My mother is from the Philippines and my father is Mexican. Needless to say, we always had an interesting array of foods at the table, you could always find white rice and pinto beans. At the time, my job was always peeling and chopping potatoes. I was always jealous of my big brother who seemed to end up with something easy like tomatoes! As I grew into a teenager, I began to chop less, and became busy in my books and grew a love for science. The medical field was my destiny. Only thing was, my mother forever scarred me with her stories of "work." As much as I wanted, I could not follow the same direction. In college, I found a different path in health, nutrition. A career path that seemed to good to be true. I found a way to help people while being surrounded by my favorite thing, food and science. As a freshman in another city, I often became depressed being away from my family. What always brought me back to home or made me feel happy, was and always will be, food.
To this day, our family gatherings always center around food. As the matriarchal figure of our family, my mother's love is displayed by her gift of delicious cooking. Just as my mother shares her gift with her family, I know so many others are out there doing the same thing. Eating healthy is a family affair, and it truly is the gift that keeps on giving. When a family learns to eat together healthier, each individual's sucess can be praised together until everyone is happier and healthier. Once we start eating healthier, we take that extra energy and move our body in any way that makes us happy.
It has become my passion to teach what I have learned about food, emotions, weight, stress, exercise and the human body to as many people as I can, who are willing to learn. As a registered dietitian with years of experience helping patients achieve their dream weight, I have learned hope is within all of us. Call me, lets talk. Let's see how we can get you started.
